Before learning what a side skirt is, let us all learn about two aerodynamic forces:

The two Aerodynamic forces are:

  1. Lift and
  2. Drag

Drag & Lift: What you need to know?

Take a look at this video here produce by Donut Media on the show “Science Garage” explaining about Lift and Drag.

Sports car builders seek an ideal aerodynamic balance between drag and downforce. When drag is minimize, car goes faster because of reduce of air resistance encountered by the car.

The limited amount of air that does go under the car will make the car travels at faster velocity.

Now the greater pressure above the car creates downforce that helps the car stay glued to the track, improving tire traction for propulsion and steering.

Downforce is necessary so the tires stay firmly planted on the track surface for optimal power delivery, steering, and braking.

Side Skirt: What is it and Why is it so important?

What is the function of a side skirt? Why is it important for my car?

Perhaps you have this question in mind, here’s a video produce by Donut Media called Science Garade teaching us how a side skirts work and why is it important.

Side skirts are used to reduce the amount of air coming from the high pressure area on the side of the car to go under the car from the sides. Side skirts improves downforce level.

The effectiveness of the side skirts depends primarily on how close to the ground the lower edge can be maintained.

Side Skirt: What is it made from?

In the market, there are 4 different types of material used in side skirting, they are Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), Polyurethane (PU), Polypropylene (PP + PE) and Fiber. All of our side skirts are made of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). At Hamel Window Films, we only import side skirts that are similar to the original parts, good in quality, affordable in price and mainly made from ABS.

ABS is usually used for mass produced parts only and its fitment is as perfect as PU. It’s light in weight, hence it doesn’t add unnecessary weight to your vehicle. The finishing surface looks better than fiber glass. However, not every factory can handle ABS as well as Hamel Window Films. During the process, other plastic material is added into ABS to produce the best quality of ABS, or else the product might deform and break easily.

If you are looking for the best side skirting service in Kuala Lumpur, look no further. Hamel Window Films is the specialist in car modification and you can definitely trust our skills and experience. Contact us or visit our offices at Shah Alam, Setia Alam or Bukit Mertajam and we are happy to explain in detail.
